Dear Settlement Members and Friends,
With more musical events planned for the Settlement in the future, we have decided to bring them under the banner of Settlement Sessions. Here are a few dates for your diary with more details to come out early in the New Year.
Saturday 22nd February at 7pm, Derek Blyth will again entertain us along with his friend and singer, Rachel Thomas. This time they bring us the life and music of the incomparable George Gershwin. Derek will tell us about the music interspersed with live vocals from Rachel.
Saturday 22nd March again at 7pm brings us Edwina Hayes, a talented contemporary singer who is well known locally, frequently appearing at Hitchin Folk Club. Her CV includes 3 albums, gigs in London and Nashville as well as spells as support act to Jools Holland, Nanci Griffith and Loudon Wainwright III. This will be a special evening and one not to miss. Friday 11th April at 7pm, we welcome back Rhys Wilson, who was last here supporting blues duo Cut the Mustard, and regularly performs in Cambridge and Royston (near to his home). Rhys performed an excellent support set including his own music and songs by Gordon Lightfoot amongst others. For those who saw him back in June, this is another opportunity to hear his great voice and excellent guitar playing. And lastly, for now, on Friday 9th May at 7pm, Hitchin-based singer Emily Slade will be here to sing her songs and some covers of contemporary music. She is also a frequent visitor to Hitchin Folk Club, and will be performing there (with Edwina Hayes) on 23rd February, giving you a chance to see both of them ahead of their solo visits to the Kincaid Hall. Emily’s claim to fame is as a singer with the Phil Beer Band –those of you who love contemporary folk music will recognise Phil as part of the hugely successful trio, Show of Hands.
