The Arab Israeli Dispute since c1900
Thu 16 Jan 2025, 1:00 pm - Thu 27 Mar 2025, 3:00 pm
Unfortunately conflicts and hatreds in the Middle East are very much in the news. This course focuses on developments from the last years of the Ottoman Empire, through the creation of Mandates and the creation of the state of Israel in 1948 to the successive wars with her neighbours. The vision of Pan Arabism, Palestinian nationalism, and the role of religion will be examined, as well as how the conflict has been influenced by the wider world, in terms of resources, global rivalries, and the Cold War.
