Landscape in Acrylics

Acrylic paint is one of the most exciting and versatile mediums for creating art. In this course, suitable for improvers, students will explore a variety of techniques and methods of application through tutor demonstration and practice. Throughout the course, students will be encouraged to experiment and develop their own personal style of painting culminating in a final piece of artwork that draws on what they have learned.
Please note that there will not be a class on 19th June 2025.

Customer Information: Acrylic paints are a water- based paint medium and produce effects similar to both watercolour and oil paints. The paints are non- toxic and will wash out when wet, but will dry to a solid, plastic consistency which is then difficult to remove. Please wear old/ painting clothes or an apron just in case. There is no need to go out and buy expensive equipment. Either use materials from your watercolour / oil painting or source brushes and pads from outlets such as The Range or Hobby Craft. The emphasis is on having a go and having fun!
We will be using colours found in most starter sets, with a few additions.
Could you please ensure you have the following:
Acrylic paint colours: Cerulean blue, Ultramarine blue, cadmium yellow, cadmium red, burnt umber, burnt sienna, yellow ochre, black and titanium white.
A small selection of sizes and shapes is fine (filberts, flats and rounds)1/4in to 1in in size. These can come in ready- made packs from some outlets. Larger blending brushes, fans, old toothbrushes or decorating brushes are handy for large areas and textures. Nylon brushes with some spring to them are preferable.
Acrylic or mixed media paper both of which are sold in pads – A3.
Pencils (HB to 3B in grade) or Charcoal. Rubber/ Putty rubber.
One water pot. A palette, ready made plastic, or use a plastic tupperware-type lid. Bag to carry paintings and wet palette.

Name: Mike Rollins
Bio: Mike is an award-winning artist living in Hitchin. His expressive style of painting has its origins in the stark landscapes of West Yorkshire, where he grew up, and in subsequent years as an attraction designer.
Mike is also an art tutor, demonstrating and holding workshops for regional art societies. He has featured in various publications, including Leisure Painter magazine, where he regular contributes articles on how to paint in acrylics.
Mike has exhibited in London, Nottingham (Patchings Festival) and throughout Hertfordshire. He is a member of Herts Visual Arts, the Wynd Gallery, and a Professional Associate of the Society of All Artists. In 2022, Mike was a finalist in the British Art Prize run by Artists & Illustrators magazine. http://www.rollinsart.com.
