Nick Skinner, Manager
Settlement Manager
Nick joined us as the Settlement Manager in February 2022. Previously he worked as a secondary school music teacher (including 8 years as Director of Music locally at St. Christopher School); Head of Performing Arts at the London Borough of Hackney’s Education Authority; Head of the Enfield Music Service for the London Borough of Enfield; and most recently as Director of Arts & Community at Richmond and Hillcroft Adult Community College.
Nick has always believed in the power of creativity, design and development, and the sharing of ideas and artistic expression. Since his appointment, his objectives have been to understand the Settlement’s special blend of education, culture and community, and to introduce new courses and initiatives to take the Settlement forward and secure its future.
Carly Simmons, Assistant Manager
Carly joined us as an Assistant Manager in September 2022. Previously she worked for a non-profit organisation for 15 years. She is also an award-winning textile artist with a BA (Hons) in Textile Design. She has exhibited at The House of Smalls in Edinburgh, the James Hockey & Foyer Galleries in Farnham (part of the University for the Creative Arts) as well as The Mall Gallery in London. In 2024 she won the Applied Arts Award at Letchworth Broadway Gallery at their Summer Open Exhibition.
Although she and Julie share a number of responsibilities, Carly’s focus is on arts and crafts, marketing and the development of the Settlement’s Saturday morning programme.
Julie Butcher, Assistant Manager
Julie joined us in September 2021 as we were starting to recover from the Covid-19 pandemic. She was appointed as an Assistant Manager in September 2022. Previously she worked in international logistics and customs compliance and before the pandemic ran a plumbing and heating business with her partner.
Although she and Carly share a number of responsibilities, Julie’s focus is on languages and humanities, premises management and looking after our hirers.
