A Journey through the Arabian Nights

The “Thousand and One Nights” known in Arabic as “Alf Layla wa Layla” are a collection of some of the greatest fables, fairy tales, stories, and historical anecdotes ever told. During these 5 weeks, Wafà will take you on a journey through the origins of the Nights, how they were collected in 938 AD in a fabulous library in Baghdad called “The House of Wisdom”, how they came to the West, were translated into French, then English, and most importantly, the effect they had on Western Literature, Art, Music, Architecture and Garden Design.

Name: Wafa Tarnowska
Bio: Wafà was born and educated in Lebanon, but has worked and lived in Australia, India, Poland, Cyprus, the UAE, and the UK. In addition to being a French, Arabic and English as a Second Language teacher, Wafà is a writer, translator, and storyteller. She has written seven children’s books and has translated children’s stories from English into Arabic in addition to TV documentaries from Arabic to English.
